SDCCU® wants to help keep you in your home and avoid foreclosure whenever possible. If you find yourself unable to manage your home loan payments, contact your primary mortgage lender right away. The sooner your lender knows about your situation the better chance you have of working out a solution. Waiting to find assistance will put you further behind in your payments and increase your chances of losing your home.

Here are some helpful solutions and resources to help keep you in your home:

Workout Loan. This solution is for members that currently have an SDCCU Home Loan. Please contact us at (877) 732-2848 for more information.

Fresh Start Loan. This solution is for members with their first mortgage with another institution and an SDCCU Home EquityLine/Loan. You should first try to obtain a Workout Loan from your first mortgage lender.

Counseling services are available for SDCCU members who need assistance in requesting a Workout Loan. Call us at (877) 732-2848 for more information.
In addition, there are many no or low cost Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved counseling agencies, see the links below for more information. Please beware of businesses representing themselves as “counseling agencies” but are really “for profit” businesses that charge for their services and cannot guarantee any results.

The services below can educate you and assist you with getting into a Workout Loan.

• The Homeownership Preservation Foundation is a national organization and the cost of counseling is paid for by Fannie Mae. Talk to an experienced counselor at (888) 995-HOPE or visit the Foundation website at 995hope.org

• San Diego Home Loan Counseling & Education Center (SDHLC&EC) is local and celebrating 30 years of community service in San Diego. This service is typically easier to reach than the Hope organization and charges $25 for their services. Learn more at sdhomeloan.org.

• See the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a more complete list of Community Counseling Agencies at hud.gov.

• Acorn Housing is a HUD approved Counseling Service. Learn more at acornhousing.org.
